Democracy, or δημοκρατία (demos-kratein) from δήμος (demos) "people" and κράτος (kratos) "power" as the Greeks had it, is the rule exercised by the people, by you and me. The idea is that every voice is heard, which encourages cohesion, mutual understanding and stability, but also immediately highlights a fundamental flaw: the quality of the outcome is average by definition, never excellent.
