Machiavelli's On the Art of War is a technical treatise different from his more famous The Prince in that it discusses politics specifically related to warfare. Written in 1521, it is a first modern attempt at classical military thought.
It is not known, but not probable either, whether Machiavelli knew the (much) earlier book of the same title by Sun Tzu.
