Hermann Hesse
German novelist and poet, used the pseudonym Emil Sinclair for the first publication of Demian.
The writings of Hermann Hesse reveal an influence by Carl Gustav Jung, Friedrich Nietzsche and Buddhist mysticism, not to mention the tumultuous circumstances of his own time. Later on ancient Hindu and even more Chinese culture become predominant. He moved to Switzerland in 1912 of which he became a naturalized citizen in 1923. Hesse was awarded the Nobelprize for literature in 1946; read his acceptance speech.
