The Robbers and the Ass

Two Robbers, having stolen an Ass, fell into a dispute as to how they should dispose of him. Each held to his own views as the best, until they came to blows, and rolled upon the ground, and beat each other without mercy. A third Thief, happening to pass, and seeing them thus engaged, made off with the Ass while they were fighting about it.

Nothing is so common as for Thieves to fall out over their ill-gotten gains, and for other thieves to make off with the spoils.
